Chisinau is preparing an attack on the Orthodox Church of Moldova, RIA Novosti reports. Igor Dodon, who heads the opposition Party of Socialists, believes that the country's authorities are going to take away the buildings of the monasteries from the church and expel the monks from there. The politician called the intervention of the authorities in the life of confessions unacceptable.

Dodon explained that the ruling regime uses the court, which is under its control. An example of such a policy is the annulment of two agreements concluded between the church and the Ministry of Culture of Moldova.

The Orthodox Church of Moldova is a self-governing part of the Russian Orthodox Church. It includes almost two-thirds of the entire population of Moldova and Transnistria. In addition, the Bessarabian Metropolis of the Romanian Orthodox Church has existed in the country for 30 years. It was joined by about 20% of believers in Moldova.

Earlier, the Bessarabian Metropolis called the Orthodox Church of Moldova an "occupation structure", accusing it of working for the Russian special services. The Russian Ministry of Foreign called these accusations far-fetched. The Romanian clergy, according to the representative of the department, Maria Zakharova, felt that they could not lure the clergy of the Moldovan Orthodox Church to them. Moscow appealed to Chisinau to stop interfering in church affairs.
