The first stone was laid at the construction site of an Orthodox church in the Philippines, the telegram channel of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Southeast Asia reports. The temple will appear on Panglao Island. It is very popular among tourists from Russia. Many Russian compatriots also live there.

The church was consecrated in honor of the Quick to Hearken Mother of God icon. The ceremony was held on November, 22, when the feast of the icon is celebrated.

The exarchate was created in 2019. It unites Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, North and South Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines and Thailand. The Russian Orthodox Church noted that the decision to create an exarchate in the region was a response to the actions of Constantinople in Ukraine.
