In two years' time, the number of students from Africa in Russian universities will double, says Charge d'Affaires of the Russian Federation in the UK Alexander Gusarov. He said this during a speech at a briefing for diplomats from African countries the day before, on July, 20. The briefing was timed to coincide with the Russia-Africa summit, which will open in a few days, TASS reports.

The diplomat has no doubt that in the near future Africa expects a large-scale leap both in the economy and in industry. Responding to emerging challenges requires people with professional skills, he explained.

Alexander Gusarov assured that Moscow would not change its position and continue to assist in the training of highly qualified personnel for African countries.

The diplomat recalled that the first Russian-African summit was held in 2019. At that time, about 17,000 people from African countries received education in Russia. And now, just a few years later, their number has grown to 35,000 people. Of these, 6,000 students received the grants from the Russian government. Within the next two years, the number of students will reach 70,000 people, the diplomat said. He promised that new courses and faculties for the study of the Russian language would be opened in African universities.
