40+ countries joining Russian-African Consortium for Higher Technical Education

More than 40 African countries will take part in the Russian-African consortium of higher technical educational institutions. This was announced by the rector of St. Petersburg Mining University Vladimir Litvinenko at the international congress Africa is looking for solutions,  TASS reports. 

The consortium will develop and coordinate cooperation between the parties in educational and scientific spheres. It will also contribute to the development of mining and processing of raw materials.

The rector emphasized the consortium's importance as a major geopolitical endeavor. Within its scope, a business council is set to be established, aiming to enhance industry efficiency, with a focus on mineral exploration, deposit analysis, knowledge sharing with Russian counterparts, and other relevant areas. Around 130 African universities, scientific institutes, specialized committees, and ministries are expected to contribute to this collaborative initiative.

The concept of forming the consortium took shape a year ago, and substantial progress has been made in recent months. Thanks to these efforts, the agreement is now is about to be signed.

Deputy Head of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Konstantin Mogilevsky stated thet cooperation with African countries is important for our country. He recalled that over the past 60 years, more than 310,000 African citizens have received education in Russian universities. At this moment, the number of African students in Russian educational institutions reaches 35 thousand.

Let us remember, Africa Seeks Solutions international congress is taking place in St. Petersburg. Rectors of leading higher education institutions and entrepreneurs from Russia and 25 African countries have gathered at the St. Petersburg Mining University. They are discussing the opening of branches of Russian universities and assistance in training specialists.
