CSTO-members call to combat terrorism and nuclear threat at Kazakhstan summit

The leaders of the Collective Security Treaty Organizations (CSTO) countries supported the INF Treaty preservation, the Kremlin website reports referring to the final declaration of the of the CSTO Collective Security Council summit held on November 8 in Kazakhstan and attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The meeting participants voiced concern about the INF Treaty. They note the crucial importance to intensify interaction on combating modern challenges: terrorism, extremism, international organized crime, drug, arms trafficking etc.

The CSTO Collective Security Council also urged to create an anti-terrorist coalition under the UN auspices. Certainly, the fight will not bring any fruits unless the terrorist and extremist ideology spreading channels are blocked.

The summit participants also agreed to develop mutual deliveries of weapons, establish contacts between defense and industrial complexes of different countries and expand cooperation in science and technology.

The CSTO countries are convinced that the Organization’s contribution to strengthening international security is increasing, it could decently take part in UN peacekeeping activities.

The summit-members said they were ready to continue the coordination of their positions.

The heads of state highlighted strengthening of the UN central role in international affairs and the primary responsibility of its Security Council for maintaining international peace and security.

According to Russkiy Mir, Russia believes that the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) should be prolonged as a key factor in maintenance of stability and security in Europe.
