Washington Capitals club ice hockey winger Alexander Ovechkin scored 1180 points in his career in National Hockey League (NHL) and became the most productive Russian hockey player in history of the league. Successful passings during the game with Vancouver Canucks club brought him the record point, and the victory to his team, Vesti reports.

This point allowed Ovechkin to surpass the result of another famous Russian hockey player Sergei Fedorov, who was included in the list of 100 greatest NHL players in 2017. Fedorov scored 1179 points in almost 20 seasons with NHL.

Alexander Ovechkin achieved a record breaking result for Russian hockey in 1055 matches of 14 NHL seasons. Now the forward is at 49th place in the list of the most successful players in the North American League. His closest Russian pursuer is Evgeni Malkin, the Pittsburgh Penguins attacker, who needs 15 more points to reach 1000.

Alexander Ovechkin won gold medals in the world championships three times. Last season, the forward won the Stanley Cup, the main prize of NHL for the first time.
