Soviet cosmonaut Georgy Grechko died

USSR pilot-cosmonaut Georgy Grechko died aged 85, as per IA Interfax. 

Georgy Grechko was born in 1931 in Leningrad. He graduated from Military Mechanical Institute. After graduation, he worked for some time as an engineer designing and developing first space satellites.

His life changed drastically in the middle of 60ies: Grechko was appointed a leader of cosmonaut candidates’ group. Georgy Grechko became a cosmonaut himself in May 1968. Overall, Grechko made three space flights in his career. The first one happened in 1975. He worked at the orbital station Salut-4 as an onboard engineer for almost a month.

His second flight at Salut-6 space station lasted for more than three months from December 1977 until March 1978. Grechko took his third space flight in 1985 and worked again as an onboard engineer of the station Salut-7. Georgy Grechko was awarded a title of Hero of the Soviet Union twice for his first flights. 

He wrote memoirs titled Cosmonaut № 34. From a Torch to Aliens.
