Latvia no longer issues visas to Russian citizens, RIA Novosti reports. Since yesterday, June, 26, visa applications are no longer accepted. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Baltic Republic, the ban applies to all types of visas.

Riga expalined its decision by the fact that events inside Russia have an unpredictable development. The Latvian authorities also promised to consider all documents submitted by June, 25.

Earlier, the ban on the entry of Russian citizens came into force in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Finland and the Czech Republic. It also applies to residents of Belarus. Restrictions apply to holders of Schengen visas issued in other EU member-states.

Brussels' decision to suspend the visa facilitation with Russia came into effect on September, 12. This means that the number of Schengen visas for Russians will decrease, and the process of obtaining visas will be longer - the terms can be increased up to six months. Each country - a member of the EU - itself determines the procedure for the admission of Russians to the territory of the Schengen zone through its borders.
