Helsinki is going to impose additional restrictions on the entry of Russian citizens into Finland, RIA Novosti reports.

The government claims that the trips of Russians to the country and through Finnish territory to other Schengen countries allegedly threaten "Finland's international relations." Because of this, the authorities consider it necessary to tighten restrictions on non-essential travel.

Latvia no longer issues visas to Russian citizens. Since June, 26, visa applications are no longer accepted. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Baltic Republic said that the ban applies to all types of visas.

Earlier, the ban on the entry of Russian citizens came into force in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Finland and the Czech Republic. It also applies to residents of Belarus. Restrictions apply to holders of Schengen visas issued in other countries that are members of the European Union.

Brussels' decision to suspend the visa facilitation with Russia came into effect on September, 12. This means that the number of Schengen visas for Russians has decreased, and the process of obtaining visas has become longer.
