Kiev continues to attempt to turn bandits and murderers into national heroes, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated. The department commented on the inclusion of Stepan Bandera’s birthday in the list of memorable dates in Ukraine.

Russkiy Mir reported that Ukraine was going to celebrate the anniversary of the theorist of Ukrainian nationalism, responsible for the most serious crimes against humanity. He would have turned 101 years old on January 1, 2019. Bandera headed the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN).

The Ukrainian people are going to commemorate the memory of a person who is directly related to the killing of civilians and Jewish people as well as other crimes.

According to Russian diplomats, the establishment of Bandera Day raises no surprise. It is the consequence of neo-Nazis torch marches, the desecration of monuments, attacks on war veterans. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that all these shameful facts fit well within the policies of the country's authorities.

It is a pity, the diplomats added, that the advisors of the current Ukrainian authorities refused to respond to such actions. They are not noticed by international structures either though these structures are supposedly engaged in the protection of "democratic values" all over the world.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the hope that Ukrainian politicians, who would come to power later, would be more selective about the interpretation of past events and would not rewrite the history for their own needs.
