Moscow will support any political forces operating in Ukraine that are ready to develop relations with Russia. President Vladimir Putin stated this at the meeting with Viktor Medvedchuk, one of the leaders of the Opposition Platform - For Life party, TASS reports.

Russian leader stressed that our country is in favor of restoring full-fledged bilateral relations with the neighboring state. At the same time, he said, it makes sense to talk about a full-fledged settlement of the situation in Donbass only through direct contacts of the Kiev authorities with representatives of the unrecognized republics. Vladimir Putin recalled that not a single world conflict in recent history has been resolved without direct negotiations between the conflicting parties. For its part, Russia is ready to help this process.

President noted that a positive step in the development of the situation would be to connect European partners to the settlement of the situation in Donbas. In this regard, the recent speech by Viktor Medvedchuk in the European Parliament is very valuable. Ukrainian politician presented a plan for a peaceful exit from the crisis in Donbas to the deputies on July 17. His main idea is to return people, not territories. People should feel that Ukraine is making efforts to protect their rights and freedoms. Vladimir Putin noted the importance of the fact that the plan is based on the Minsk agreements approved by the international community.

Separately, the topic of the release of the detained persons was touched upon. Russian leader assured that Moscow welcomes efforts in this direction, since we are talking about the fate of specific people. Positive changes for each person are the measure of success for any political forces, Vladimir Putin stressed.
