The Western media should stop the campaign aimed at smearing Russia, says Mairid Maguire, awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. In her opinion, the media should stop forcibly feeding their readers with military propaganda, RIA Novosti reports.

Most of all, the public figure is sure, the activities of Western publications are similar to what they did during the Cold War. It was then that the talks about the threat coming from the East and the proximity of nuclear war did not stop. And today the West wants again "to repulse an unknown evil from the East."

She called the demonization of Russia one of the most dangerous trends that exist today. Instead, the leaders of Western countries should start restoring relations with Moscow, "with our Russian brothers and sisters."

The policy pursued by NATO has already led to the fact that the lives of millions of people were destroyed, many countries were devastated, and a huge number of migrants appeared in the world.

Maguire is convinced that London, Washington and Paris simply do not know how to conduct a dialogue, but prefer to rely on pressure and military power. It can not lead to anything good, stressed the Nobel laureate. With global challenges and threats, one can cope only if the world community unites its efforts, and the abolition of anti-Russian sanctions will facilitate this process.

Mairid Maguire received the award in the mid-seventies. It was noted for the creation of an anti-war community of peaceful people. Her work helped settle the armed confrontation in Northern Ireland.
