More US sanctions against Russia are another step on the way to nowhere, says the head of the Russian diplomatic mission in Washington, Anatoly Antonov. According to the ambassador, the restrictions will primary hurt the US business elite working in Russia, RIA Novosti reports.

The diplomat does not doubt that Russia will cope with any restrictions and pressure from abroad. The American business will lose its income as it has to leave the Russian market.

Anatoly Antonov recalled that now there are about 3000 companies with American finance in Russia. About 180 thousand people work there. Their total assets are 75 billion dollars.

American businessmen are not eager to leave Russia. The St. Petersburg Economic Forum proves it. The most representative delegation of more than 500 members comes from overseas for two years in row.

A spokesperson for the US State Department earlier said that Washington could abandon the second package of sanctions on the Skripals case if Moscow provide international inspectors with an access to its chemical facilities. In addition, Russia must guarantee that it will no longer use poisoning substances against its citizens.

As Russkiy Mir reported, a new package of US sanctions began to operate in late August. They were introduced under the pretext the Skripals case. Washington accused Moscow of using chemical weapons against Russian citizens. The second sanction wave can follow in three months. It includes a possible reduction in the level of diplomatic relations, a ban on Aeroflot flights to the US and the almost complete cessation of US exports.
