Russian team lost the last group match of FIFA World Cup to Uruguay yielding its rivals the first place in the group A. Results of Portugal – Iran match have showed that the next game of Russia will be played against Span in the 1/8 of finals of the FIFA World Cup. Russia took a small break in sequence of victorious matches yesterday. The team’s captain, goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev has bravely stood up against attacks of Uruguay, but missed 3 goals anyway. Uruguay’s quarterback Luis Suarez opened the scoreboard. He got a nickname of Dracula, as he bit Italian football player Chiellini by shoulder in 2014.
The second goal was scored by Denis Cheryshev – it was own goal. After two missed goals the mischiefs of the Russian football players continued. Igor Smolnikov was sent off while trying to defend the gates. The third goal was scored right before the last second of the match.
After the game was over, Stanislav Cherchesov commented on the defeat of his team: “10 of us showed quite aggressive football and desire to play by our hearts.” Not aware of the results of Iran-Portugal match, the Russian coach assured: “We need to restore and get ready, and we will do it.”
The outcome of the second match did not affect the balance of power in group B. Portugal and Iran played draw (1:1), which did not save the Iranians who have to leave the championship. Morocco and Spain got equal scores too - 2:2. The team of Morocco leaves the tournament to go home. The national team of Saudi Arabia gets out of group A together with Uruguay and Russia.
The following match of the Russian team is scheduled for July 1 in Moscow’s stadium of Luzhniki. In Stanislav Cherchesov mentioned at the press-conference after the match with Uruguay: “Luzhniki is my stadium.”
