73 SPNA to be created in the frames of the Year of Ecology

The head of the Ministry of Natural Resources Sergey Donskoi has advised on this at the All-Russian forum on specially protected natural areas (SPNA) in Sochi. Donskoi has underlined that during last seven years more than 20 specially protected areas were created. This year 73 new territories will get status of national park or wildlife preserve. 16 of them are located in Moscow region, 8 in Kostroma region and another 8 in Krasnodar region. New SPNA areas will be established in Tambov, Tver, and other Russian regions.

Currently the total land area of specially protected areas amounts to approximately 62 million hectares of land. More than 10,000 various specialists are engaged in preserves' system work.
