Russian diplomats are returning to Burkina Faso, TASS reports. The embassy in the African country resumes work 31 years after its closure.

The Russian Ambassador to Côte d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso,  Alexey Saltykov, recalled that the embassy ceased its activities in 1992. According to him, the country is a long-time partner of Russia, and bilateral relations are of a strong and friendly nature. Economic cooperation and political contacts have never been stopped.

Alexey Saltykov called the opening of the embassy an additional incentive to further strengthen relations. The work of the diplomatic mission will help consider and resolve all issues and more effectively, including those related to the construction of a nuclear power plant that Rosatom plans to build in Burkina Faso.

The issue of opening an embassy was discussed during the 2nd Russia-Africa summit by Russian leader Vladimir Putin and his Burkinabe counterpart Ibrahim Traoré.
