The Australian authorities continue to destroy relations with Russia, the Russian Embassy stated. This is how the diplomats commented on the termination of the land lease agreement in Canberra, where they planned to build a new building for the Russian diplomatic mission, RIA Novosti reports. The decision taken by the country's parliament fits into a line that deliberately and consistently leads to the destruction of relations with Moscow, the embassy said.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced that Parliament is terminating the lease on a site near Parliament. The government said that the construction of the building allegedly poses a threat to Australia's national security, and linked this step to Russia's military actions in Ukraine.

The land lease agreement was signed in 2008. The current Russian embassy is located in the Griffith district in the south of the capital.

Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson of the President of the Russian Federation, promised that Russia would certainly take into account another unfriendly attack from Canberra.
