Memory of Yuri Gagarin immortalized in Bolivia

The memory of the first cosmonaut of the planet was immortalized in Bolivia, RIA Novosti reports. The portrait sculpture of Yuri Gagarin was opened the day before, on April, 12, the ceremony was timed to coincide with Cosmonautics Day. It was installed at the Amachuma ground station, where they monitor communications satellites.

The Russian embassy noted that it was the first monument to a Russian person in Bolivia.

According to the Ambassador of the Russian Federation Mikhail Ledenev, students of the Russian-Bolivian college, which operates in La Paz, became participants in the opening ceremony. 

The head of the Bolivian Space Agency Ivan Zambrana, Deputy Minister of Communications Gonzalo Mamani, head of the Bolivian Atomic Energy Agency Hortensia Jimenez attended the ceremony. 

The Russian diplomat noted that the name of Gagarin in Bolivia is well known to the older generation. The embassy is doing everything possible to let the young generation know about his feat as well, he assured.
