A shot made by Russian photographer Irina Yarinskaya has been chosen as one of the best photos of 2019, the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper writes. Yarinskaya’s work was included in top-100 rating by Time magazine.

The news became an absolute surprise for the photographer. She captured a polar bear walking down the city street.

According to Yarinskaya, she heard stories about a bear roaming the outskirts of the city, and decided to try to photograph it. The luck was on her side, even though it was scary for the photographer to approach the huge hungry predator. She managed to make a whole series of shots. Photos published on social networks have become known throughout the country and beyond its borders.

Zoologists arrived in Norilsk, gave the female bear the sedative and sent her to the Roev Ruchey zoo in Krasnoyarsk. Now she has gained weight and feels great. The bear is undergoing rehabilitation. The zoo staff called her Martha.
