Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov promised that the United States would get a sharp response to the refusal to issue visas to representatives of the Russian Federation who were going to come to the UN General Assembly. “Such rudeness cannot be tolerated,” he stressed, the ministry website reports. Perhaps the time has come to raise the issue of relocating the UN headquarters, the minister added.

The head of Russian diplomacy recalled that this is not the first such case. In the spring, the head of the relevant department of the ministry’s non-proliferation and arms control department was not allowed to attend a meeting of the UN Disarmament Commission. Then Moscow proposed not to hold a meeting on American territory if countries could not send representatives.

Some members of the Russian delegation who were going to take part in the UN General Assembly did not get American visas. Russian Permanent Representative to the international organization Vasily Nebenzya said that some representatives of the Russian Federation, who were planning to become a participant in the conference of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization), were also refused visas. He stated this to reporters on Wednesday.

Russian Foreign Ministry previously stated that American diplomats claims about technical difficulties did not withstand any criticism. Maria Zakharova called the statement that Russia was late with the submission of documents a lie. She noted that the documents were sent exactly on time specified by the US Embassy. At the same time, the same documents submitted in advance were returned because they were “filed early”.
