The University of Oxford awarded the Gold Standard in Providing Internship Trainees mark to Perm State National Research University (PSNRU). The University became the first Russian educational institution to receive an award from one of the leading universities in the world. In Perm, British students not only get scientific practice, but also learn Russian and get acquainted with nature and the history of Russia, PSNRU website reports.

Perm University has been cooperating with a British university in the field of internships since 2012. Students from Oxford have a summer internship in Perm at the base of Perm State National Research University. Over the seven years of the program’s existence, 155 Oxford students have visited Perm. The British had the opportunity to work in modern laboratories that PSNRU has. Laboratories of this level are not easily accessible in Oxford.

According to Lyudmila Kadzhai, Head of the International Contacts Department at Perm National Research University, they pay great attention to the adaptation of students and see this as the basis for the success of the methodology. In addition to scientific classes, they organize guided tours, rafting on local rivers, as well as the study of Russian language.

The award from the University of Oxford will allow Perm National Research University to expand internship programs. Museum specialists and archivists from Oxford will be trained in Perm in 2019 for the first time.

The Gold Standard mark is awarded on the basis of a variety of indicators, including the quality of programs and student feedback. Six organizations in Russia conduct internships for students from Oxford. These are the universities and museums, including the Hermitage.
