Russian Embassy in Paris celebrated Maslenitsa first time

Russian Embassy in Paris celebrated Maslenitsa, RIA Novosti reports. Diplomats had a holiday with pancakes, Russian folk songs and dances for the first time. Artists who came from Kaluga region helped them with this. Alexey Meshkov, who heads the diplomatic mission, recalled that Maslenitsa is similar to old French tradition to celebrate Fat Tuesday. It is the last day of the carnival before the beginning of Catholic Lent. The holiday’s story is rooted in paganism like Maslenitsa. It is celebrated with feast and costume processions. 

The Ambassador expressed his gratitude to guests from Russia for making a real holiday. He recalled that a presentation of the potential of Russian region took place in Paris. 

The governor of Kaluga region Anatoly Artamonov, in turn, recalled that residents of both countries are well aware of the exploits of pilots of legendary Normandy-Neman regiment based in Kaluga region. 

The Caprice ensemble of Russian folk instruments and folk dance ensemble of Kaluga region performed at the embassy. Пuests of the evening received small stuffed Maslenitsa dolls made of straw and lollipops. An exhibition of handicrafts was organized in the lobby of the embassy.
