Largest theatrical competition in history to be held in Russia as part of Year of Theater

The theatrical competition will be held at 50 venues from June to November 2019 and will become one of the main events of the Year of Theater in Russia. The theaters from all around the globe with more than 30 plays are going to take part in it. In total, the program of the Year of the Theater will host more than 2,5 thousand events, a considerable part of them will be held in the regions, Russia’s Ministry of Culture reports on its website

Theater competition will be the largest in the history of the project. According to the Deputy Minister of Culture Pavel Stepanov, the productions of such world-famous theatrical masters as Tadashi Suzuki, Theodoros Terzopoulos, Simon Stone and many other directors will be shown during the event. The main activities of the project will be held in the autumn of 2019.

The year of the theater was solemnly opened in early December with the participation of President Vladimir Putin. The official website of the Year of the Theater, designed to orient the audience in thousands of events of the Year, was launched on December 1, but, according to Pavel Stepanov, it will start operating fully on January 1. 
 
In terms of geographical and genre scale, only the theater marathon can compete with the theater competition. The project will host tours of leading theaters in dozens of Russian regions, as well as master classes and exhibitions devoted to the history of theatrical art.
