Evgeny Mironov has been awarded with a honorary prize of the Istanbul International Arts Festival, TASS reports. The artist received the prize after the play Hamlet / Collage which the Theater of Nations brought to Turkey. It represented the Golden Mask festival.

The artistic director of the theatre who plays all the roles in this performance appeared on the Zorlu Center stage. All the tickets in 2500-seat-hall were sold out. The audience gave the artist a standing ovation.

The play by Shakespeare was staged by a Canadian director Robert Lepage. The action of the digital performance takes place in a movable cube which is specially programmed. The director added that the cube was very difficult to transport.

According to the artist, he worried that this cube would seem lost in the huge hall. He noted that the Theater of Nations performed the tragedy for five years.

Russian staffs did not perform in any Turkish theaters for 15 years. Hamlet will be staged followed by a Russian-Turkish cultural cross-year announced for the next year.

The organizers are confident that the interaction of major theater festivals will provide an additional incentive to strengthen ties between Russia and Turkey in the cultural and humanitarian sphere. The educational program includes master classes and lectures by leading theater specialists from Russia.

According to Russkiy Mir, the international tour of the Golden Mask festival this year covers three countries - Latvia, Estonia and Turkey. Russian performances will be shown in eight cities. Moreover, Israel will host the Golden Mask for the fifth time.
