Sergey Lavrov goes on an official visit to Spain for first time in four years

The head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Sergey Lavrov on November 5 has paid an official visit to Spain for the first time within the last four years. He met with his Spanish counterpart Josep Borrell, TASS reports.

The Russian MFA explained that the talks would cover the whole range of bilateral relations and the key issues on the world stage. Also the Spanish king Philip VI will receive Sergey Lavrov.

An active political dialogue are established between Moscow and Madrid, the ministry notes. The foreign ministers of both countries are going to ink the political consultation plan for the next two years and aim to solve the discussed problems. The diplomats will talk on the situation in Europe, joint work on all topics of bilateral cooperation at major international platforms. The affairs between Russia, the EU and NATO as well as the Syrian settlement, crisis in Libya and situation in Ukraine will also be on agenda.

The sides will discuss humanitarian and cultural as well. Russia and Spain have an extensive experience in bilateral large-scale projects in this sphere. The next two years are planned to be Russian-Spanish education and science cross-years. Some youth exchanges will be held within them.

The project will provide an opportunity to implement important programs designed to strengthen the position of the Russian language, Russian education and science in the cultural, scientific and educational realms of Spain. The cross-year will also help improve mutual understanding between the two peoples.
