Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin began one-on-one talks in Helsinki, Finland. Russian and American Presidents discuss settling the Syrian conflict at the summit, according to the Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov. Another topic of their meeting will be Iran. According to him, Russian authorities understand Washington’s views on Teheran perfectly well, RT channel informs.
At the same time, the Presidential official has emphasized that Iran remains a Russian partner and Russia continues cooperation with this country in the fields of trade and economics. Besides, Moscow and Teheran are opening a political dialogue. Dmitry Peskov explained that this conversation cannot be simply called an exchange of opinions.
A political solution to the Syrian crisis must be found at the end of the conversation. This is work of the Constitutional Committee and continuation of the process, which started in Astana as well as many other processes.
Before the meeting, the parties exchanged materials offering points of view on various issues. There are topics on which the opinions of the parties are worlds apart, while there are others where they agree.
Dmitry Peskov has summoned up that at present there is no point in talking on coming closer together.
The meeting of Russian and American leaders, which is to be held today in the capital city of Finland, is the first full-scaled summit of Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. The meeting is to last for 3 hours. There is not a planned agenda, though. Leaders are to define a range of topics for discussion in the course of the meeting.
