Russian Defense Ministry is ready to retaliate, in case of placing an US military base on the territory of Poland. According to the first deputy chairman of the Federation Council on Defense and Security Committee Evgeny Serebrennikov, the Russian Defense Ministry is ready for counteractions, RIA Novosti informs.

He mentioned that at present the corresponding work is undertaken by the Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation. Diplomats hope to persuade Warsaw to decline this decision or admonish such an offer.

The member of the Upper House of the Russian Parliament explained that in case the efforts made by the Foreign Office failed, the decision would be to involve the Russian Defense Ministry.

Activities directed at reinforcing national security are being conducted, he added.

Senator called NATO’s expansion to the East and placing its armed forces by the borders with Russia unwilling and illegal behavior.

Presidential Press Secretary of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov has earlier stated that Poland is entitled to place a military base on its territory, but Moscow is entitled to take retaliatory measures too.

Polish mass media informed the day before that Warsaw was going to invest 2 billion US dollars into placing a military base in the country. In opinion of the Polish politicians, there is ongoing necessity in such a base in the country, so they are ready to cover a part of all expenses.
