Reputable International Forum GLOBSEC 2018 is held in Bratislava from 17 May until 19 May 2018 for the 12th time already, according to the press-service of the State Duma Committee for Education and Science. Around 1000 participants from 70 countries are taking part in the forum. Among the guests are prominent state and political figures, analysts, experts and researchers.  

Slovakia’s President Andrej Kiska delivered a speech at the forum.

The forum agenda provides for discussion of multiple challenges, including international terrorism, issues connected to the innovational technologies and digital networking, which ensure new opportunities and are able to threaten security and stability of the political systems, revolutional technologies, applied in the conflict zones, new requirements to the labour market, etc. 

Special attention was drawn to the panel discussion on the topic of Russia and the West: Overcoming Discrepancies dedicated to opportunities of resuming a bilateral dialogue and joint work to resolve complicated international crises. 

The Chairman of the State Duma Committee of the Russian Federation for Education and Science, Chairman of the Executive Board of the Russkiy Mir Foundation Vyacheslav Nikonov, Chairman of the Munich Security Conference Wolfgang Ischinger, Director of the Carnegie  European Center Tomas Valasek, senior scientific worker of the US Atlantic Center Jan Bzhezinski were all taking part in the discussions.

Discussion’s moderator was an expert on Russia from the French Institute of International Relations Bobo Lo.

In the course of hot talks such questions as the Ukrainian conflict, Syrian crisis, peculiarities of perceiving Russia’s politics in the West and attitude to the Western politics in Russia, reciprocal claims, search for common grounds and possibilities for closer interaction and cooperation were touched upon.
