Putin discussed situation of Christians in Syria with leaders of Orthodox churches

Administration of Russian PresidentRussian President Vladimir Putin expressed his regrets about ongoing oppressions of Christians during the meeting with heads of local churches in Novo-Ogaryovo, according to RIA Novosti. President has commented that terrorists in Syria have been prosecuting, banishing from homes and even killing people based on their religious beliefs, despite the civilized society accused of these barbaric actions long time ago.

Vladimir Putin has reminded the religious leaders that monasteries and Orthodox relics are under threat of destruction in Syria, the place, which once used to be a cradle of Christianity where basic Orthodox beliefs came to existence.

Apart from discussion of state of affairs with Christians in the Middle East, Vladimir Putin has also congratulated Patriarchs and Metropolitans who visited these places with 100th anniversary of revival of patriarchy institute in Russia. The head of Russia had to acknowledge that spiritual crisis and devaluation of some traditions co-exist with openness in the contemporary society.
