According to Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs of State Duma Leonid Slutsky, this action of Polish authorities is a defamatory to the memory of those who gave their lives releasing Europeans from fascism, and also Holocaust victims.

The parliamentarian has added that an urgent debate under the Knesset regulations is an exceptional measure. Both Knesset and State Duma address this matter today.

“We have discussed the simultaneous decision date on distortion of historical truth agenda with Israel parliamentarians,” the Russian parliament's lower house head Vyacheslav Volodin has stated. He has added that similar situation can be seen in some European countries.

Let us remind, President of Poland Andrzej Duda has approved amendments to the Decommunization Act that relate to monuments of the Soviet epoch. It regulates dismantling and demolition of those monuments that, according to the draft law authors, “praise Communist regime”. This definition also applies to monuments that were raised in honour of the Soviet soldiers who lost their lives liberating Poland from the Nazis. Polish Sejm passed this draft law on June 22, the day of beginning of the Great Patriotic War.
