Iranian students can start studying Russian next year, RTVI reports. Abbas Moslem, the adviser to the Eurasian Business Council on Iran, believes that the first Russian language department may appear after the New Year. According to him, without such faculties it is impossible to build strong bilateral relations in various fields.

He also added that he himself is obtaining permission for three Iranian universities to begin teaching Russian there.

Schoolchildren in Iran will be able to study Russian as well. By decision of the Council of Higher Education, it will also be possible for them to study Italian, German, Chinese and French. Previously, they were offered to study English and Arabic.

Now English is no longer compulsory, and Arabic is required to be studied only in primary school as the language of the Koran. For other students, conversational Arabic courses will be optional.
