Five musicians will continue to fight for victory in the semi-finals of the Mikael Tariverdiev International Organ Competition, TASS reports. Among them are four representatives of Russia and a French organist. They won the Moscow stage of the first round.

Of nine participants, Russians Elena Maleva, Ivan Gavrikov, Irina Kryukova, Vitaly Kotova and Frenchman Jean Nouvel-Alou were recognized as the best.

The first qualifying round ended in Moscow the day before, on August, 30. The performances of the participants were evaluated by an international jury led by the Italian Eugenio Maria Fagiani, organist of the Franciscan Church in La Verne.

He highly appreciated the high level of skills of all participants. According to him, first of all, the jury took into account how much the performers understand the music they play. The judges agreed.

The competition continues, and now the jury is hoping to hear something new from the participants. The musician hopes that they would show their imagination, pave the way for the development of musical thought.

The qualifying rounds of the competition are traditionally held in the USA, Germany and China. This year, they were organized abroad online.

All musicians who have passed the selection will meet from September, 3 to September,8  in Kaliningrad, where, according to tradition, the results of the competition are summed up.
