18 million Russian children resumed school studies on Knowledge Day

Knowledge Day is celebrated in Russia on September, 1. The number of schoolchildren who started the school year has exceeded 18 million, TASS reports. About 40,000 schools opened on September, 1 across the country. In 2023, there are 8%  more first-graders than a year ago, their number is about two million.

Moscow schools have welcomed more than 1,5 million people. 30 new schools for 20,000 people began to operate in the Moscow region. In St. Petersburg, almost 70,00 first-graders went to school for the first time.

The Russian President Vladimir Putin, together with his counterpart from Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov, will start the construction of three Russian-language schools in Kyrgyzstan via video link. The construction of schools where teaching will be conducted in Russian will be started in Bishkek, Batken and Karakol. The construction of other educational institutions will begin later. It is planned to build three schools annually. The first three will be ready in 2025.
