The Benois de la Danse Ballet Festival begins on Tuesday, June, 20, TASS reports. Its participants will take to the stage of the Bolshoi Theater. The Benois de la Danse award is rightfully considered an analogue of the Oscar for ballet dancers. It will be awarded to the best choreographer, dancer and ballerina for the 29th time.

This year the jury is headed by the famous ballerina Svetlana Zakharova. She replaced Yuri Grigorovich, who headed the project from the day it was founded. The legendary choreographer is the honoured president of the festival.

The performances will be evaluated by an international jury, its composition changes every year. This year, it includes ballet teacher Leonid Sarafanov, artistic director of the ballet of the Kazakh Abai Gulzhan Tutkibayeva Opera and Ballet Theater, Tien Ryu, who is part of the management of the South Korean company Universal Ballet, chief choreographer of the National Ballet of China Fei Bo and others.

The nominees are nominated by members of the international jury.

The charitable gala concert is scheduled to take place on June, 21. All proceeds will go to the Ballet Veterans Assistance Fund.
