The Russian language congress was held in the capital of Venezuela on June, 6, TASS reports. The forum was held for the 2nd time.

Russian Ambassador Sergei Melik-Bagdasarov recalled that the Russian language remains the language of communication, education, science and diplomacy. It is the second most popular language on the Internet and the first language ever spoken in space. The diplomat said that the city authorities allowed the installation of a monument to Pushkin in one of the parks of Caracas.

Director of the Teresa Carreño Theater Irvin Peña called it a great honor to host such a forum in the theatre. According to him, the country treats Russian culture with great respect, loves the work of Russian writers and composers. Irwin Peña noted that the study of the Russian language is becoming increasingly popular. He added that among the staff of the theater there are more and more of those who study the Russian language.

The congress was organized by the Embassy of the Russian Federation, the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo, the Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots and the Russian-Venezuelan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The forum is aimed at improving the conditions for learning the Russian language, the interest in which is growing. This is largely due to the fact that an increasing number of students from Venezuela study at Russian universities. This year, the Russian authorities have allocated 200 state-funded grants for them. According to this indicator, the country ranks first in Latin America.

The congress ended with a performance by the Caracas Symphony Orchestra, which performed Rachmaninov's and Tchaikovsky's music.
