Almost 700,000 foreigners received Russian citizenship in 2022

Almost 700,000 people became citizens of the Russian Federation over the past year, TASS reports. The Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that a year earlier this figure was 44,000 people more. In total, 691,045 foreigners received Russian passports in 2022. 40 Russians have renounced their citizenship in the country.

During the year, the Ministry of Internal Affairs banned entry for more than 141,000 foreigners.

Over the past two years, 170,000 compatriots from neighboring countries have become Russian citizens under a simplified procedure. The main department for migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation noted that for the most part these are representatives of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Moldova and Ukraine.

After the new regions became part of Russia, more than 80,000 residents of the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions became Russian citizens.
