Australia celebrates 60th anniversary of volleyball club founded by Russian emigrants

The 60th anniversary of the Vostok volleyball club was celebrated In Australia. Russian emigrants who came to Australia from China played became the first players of the club in the 1960s. For 60 years, four generations of volleyball players have passed through the team, the Edinenie newspaper reports.
 
After the creation of the Vostok club, volleyball clubs organized by Russian players appeared in many Australian cities. Vostok captain of the first generation Nikolay Evdokimov said that the popularity of volleyball in the Russian community of Australia contributed to the emergence of many strong teams.

Nikolai Austin, a Vostok player since the 1960s, said the athletes were close friends, many of them going through Russian scouting organizations. According to him, four Russians are currently playing in the team, and the children of former Vostok volleyball players are also joining the games.

In total, the club has three men's and two women's teams, one of them plays in the top division of Australia. The athletes of the club are involved in the national team of the state of New South Wales in national competitions.
