Monument to Sholokhov inaugurated in Alexandria

17.12.2021

The memory of Mikhail Sholokhov has been immortalized in Egypt, the Rossotrudnichestvo website reports. A sculpture depicting the great Russian writer adorned one of the central squares of Alexandria. His novel "And Quiet Flows the Don" has been known to readers in Egypt for several decades. It was translated into Arabic in 1958.

The author of the monument was the famous Egyptian sculptor Osama El-Serui.

Earlier, a portrait sculpture of Rasul Gamzatov was installed in one of the Cairo parks. Its installation was initiated by the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo in Cairo. Russian diplomats thanked everyone who helped install the monument.
