The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has named the Bekhovo village in the Tula Region as one of the winners of the Best Tourist Villages competition. Bekhovo competed with 170 settlements from 75 countries. The winners were announced at the UNWTO General Assembly in Madrid, RIA Novosti reports.
Three villages represented Russia at the competition. Besides Bekhovo, the Ural village of Visim and the village of Vyatskoye from the Yaroslavl region competed for the victory. The commission of the contest was looking for settlements that have retained their traditional appearance, but at the same timeoffered tourists interesting programs and a comfortable stay.
The Tula village became the only representative of the former Soviet republics on the list of winners. Bekhovo is located on the banks of the Oka and is part of the national reserve named after the artist Vasily Polenov.
