Russian schoolchildren have won three gold and one silver medals at the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), the website of the Ministry of Education reports. The current tournament for young programmers was held at the National University of Singapore. Due to the unfavorable epidemiological situation, the participants competed online. The Russian team, which consisted of four people, gathered in Sochi, at the Sirius educational center.

The Olympiad was held for the 33rd time, more than 350 people were able to join it. This number became the largest in the history of the tournament. Representatives of 88 countries fought for the victory. The Olympiad combined two stages, where students had to show their IT skills by completing six algorithmic tasks.

According to Sergei Kravtsov, who heads the education department, the achievements of Russian schoolchildren are a source of pride for their teachers and parents. According to him, victories at the olympiads indicate a high level of development of the Russian educational system.

Gold medals went to Mikhail Budnikov from Chelyabinsk, Muscovites Yegor Lifar and Timofey Fedoseev. Danila Usachev from Samara won a silver medal.

In June, Russian schoolchildren won 12 medals at the European Geography Olympiad. Over 150 participants from 13 countries competed for the awards.
