Cooperation between Russia and South Korea to continue with Year of Cultural Exchanges

There are good-neighborly and friendly relations between Russia and South Korea, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is sure. He said this in an interview with Korean media dedicated to the anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The two countries celebrate the 30th anniversary of this event on September, 30.

It was planned to hold the Year of Mutual Exchanges by the anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The head of Russian diplomacy expressed regret that it had to be postponed to next year due to the unfavorable epidemiological situation. In addition, a Year of Cultural Exchanges is planned, as well as the Russian Seasons festival.

The Foreign Minister noted that over the past years, the countries have managed to accumulate large-scale experience of successful cooperation in trade, economy, culture, science and many other areas. In addition, Moscow and Seoul are linked by a political dialogue that continues at different levels, including the highest. South Korea also ranks among Russia's important trade and economic partners. The volume of bilateral trade reaches almost $25 billion.

The developing cooperation between the regions of Russia and Korea plays an important role. Sergey Lavrov also recalled the growing interaction in the cultural and humanitarian sphere. Tours of Russian performers in Korea are always a success. Tourist exchanges are actively developing. Over the past year, the number of Koreans who have visited Russia has exceeded 400,000, about 300,000 Russian citizens have traveled to South Korea. Mutual abolition of visas had a beneficial effect on the increase in tourist flow in both directions, Lavrov said.

The minister has no doubts that the resumption of regular flights will help restore the pre-crisis level of bilateral cooperation between our countries.
