Russian Maria Kokunova wins international photo contest

Russian Maria Kokunova was recognized as the best in the Discovery category of the Sony World Photography Awards international competition, which was attended by several hundred thousand photographers from many countries. The annual competition was held by the World Organization of Photography (WOF), TASS reports.

The Russian woman won with the Cave photo series, the photos were taken in the past and current years. According to Maria Kokunova, in the pictures she reflected personal experience - while becoming a mother, she felt an increase in anxiety as a result of isolation and a changed lifestyle.

The photographer said that the victory in the prestigious competition motivates her to new creative achievements. The works of Russian photographers claimed victory in four competitive nominations. The photographer of the year was Pablo Albarenga from Uruguay.

Last spring, the victory in the Modern Problems nomination for the World Press Photo international contest went to St. Petersburger Nikita Tereshin, who lives in Germany. The prize is considered the main in the field of photojournalism.
