Russia delivered humanitarian aid to Serbia

The first of eleven humanitarian aid planes from Russia landed in Serbia. It delivered military experts and equipment for disinfection and epidemiological diagnostics to the country, RIA Novosti reports.

Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabich, the head of the defense department Alexander Vulin, and members of the government met the plane at Bateinitsa airbase near Begrade. They were joined by the Russian ambassador Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko.

Military doctors and virologists from Russia will begin to assist Serbian partners in the fight against the coronavirus infection. They will be joined by specialists who will arrive on the following flights. On Friday, April 3, four more planes should arrive in Serbia, the arrival of six airliners is expected the next day.

An agreement on the provision of Russian assistance to Serbia was reached in a telephone conversation between Vladimir Putin and Alexander Vuchich. A request for help came from the Serbian side as part of an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the field of emergency humanitarian response. The agreement has been in force for more than ten years.
