The Russian Ministry of Defence has made publicly available documents on the liberation of the capital of Serbia. The documents have been declassified, RIA Novosti reports. Now one can get acquainted with archival materials in a special section on the website of the Defence Ministry department. It was opened for the anniversary of the liberation of Belgrade.

The Belgrade strategic offensive operation ended 75 years ago. The anniversary of the holiday date will be celebrated on Sunday, October 20. It is planned that the head of the Russian Government Dmitry Medvedev will be an honored guest of the festivities.

The documents showed that the leadership of the Nazi army was about to practically wipe the city off the face of the earth, blowing up the main objects of urban infrastructure. The Nazis mined all historical sights, administrative buildings, water supply, sewage and port. During the liberation of the city, the heroes twice repeated the feat of Alexander Matrosov.

After the liberation of the city, sappers of the third Ukrainian front were engaged in mine clearance. The episodes of the storming and demining of the Albania Hotel and the Kalemegdan Fortress can be found in the military log of the 11th separate assault engineering and combat engineer brigade.
