The number of broadcast views of Tchaikovsky International Competition exceeded 18.5 million, the website of the Ministry of Culture reports. Competitive performances and auditions could be seen on the world's largest classical music channel, Medici.TV, both live and recorded. The geography of views covered 192 countries and 13 118 cities. Most spectators were Russians, Americans and Japanese.

The audience was half the number on the 15th competition 4 years ago. The current largest in the world competition of classical music performers was held in the framework of the Culture national project.

As Russkiy Mir reported, Tchaikovsky International Competition was the 16th in a row. It is held every four years. Moscow and Saint Petersburg were chosen as the venue. The winner of the Grand Prix was pianist Alexander Kantorov, representing France. He said that his ancestors were Russian, they moved to France before the revolution. The pianist feels the inner connection with Russian music and hopes to learn Russian in the future.
