The situation with the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF Treaty) has not progressed, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov says. The prospects of INF Treaty were the subject of discussion between Moscow and Washington during the consultation in Geneva, but did not result, RIA Novosti informs. Sergei Ryabkov explained that the representatives of all institutions and authorities from both countries, who are working on the INF Treaty issue, attended the meeting.

He expressed concern regarding that the USA have not put forth their demands to Russia, which makes convergence of  views of both sides impossible. He recalled that the United States side declared the 2-month period for Russia to take some measures for the implementation of the treaty. There is no doubt that the US representatives came to Geneva with their certain view of the negotiation results, Ryabkov added.

Moscow strictly abides by the provisions of the INF Treaty, while the USA keeps undermining this important document. The responsibility for termination of the treaty rests completely with Washington.

Russia is always open for dialogue, but it should be held on an equal footing, Ryabkov added. Ultimatums by the USA are invalid. Moscow will spare no effort in preserving the treaty, until the US government officially declares about the withdrawal from this agreement.

As Russkiy Mir informed, the United States are waiting for Russia to get back to the compliance with the treaty in two months. Otherwise, Washington will suspend the obligations imposed on it by the agreement.

Russian President Vladimir Putin described charging Russia with violation of the Treaty as unsubstantiated. He warned that in case of withdrawal from the Treaty by the USA, Russia would give an appropriate response.
