Moscow has never failed to abide by the provisions of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared. According to MFA’s spokesperson Maria Zakharova, US government knows this fact it quite well, RIA Novosti reports.

According to US’s State Secretary Mike Pompeo, the White House expects that Russia will start complying with the INF Treaty within two months. Otherwise Washington is going to suspend its obligations under the treaty. Pompeo promised that the US were not going to produce, test and deploy missiles that fall within the scope of the treaty during this time. When 60 days are over it becomes clear what to do next, he added.

Senator Alexei Pushkov called Pompeo’s ultimatum an peculiar way to withdraw from the treaty for US. He believes that Moscow’s rejection of this ultimatum is obvious, and Washington understands that. After that the White House will be able to leave the treaty and blame Russia for it.

Russia’s Council Foreign Affairs Committee First Deputy Chairman Vladimir Dzhabarov noted that Washington already received all the documents confirming that the Russian authorities were implementing the INF. Dzhabarov is convinced that Washington’s allegations are an empty shell. The politician has no doubt that Moscow will take tit-for-tat measures if the US government decides to abandon the INF. If it deploys medium and short-range missiles in Europe, Russia will increase the number of such missiles in its European part.

Russkiy Mir reported earlier that Washington to have promised to withdraw from the INF treaty. President Trump reasoned this decision with the alleged violations of the treaty by Russia.
