Syrian Christians addressed to Russia with a request for humanitarian aid, Interfax news agency reports. They sent a message to the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Society (IOPS).

The document was signed by representatives of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch, the Armenian Apostolic Church, the Ancient Church of the East and the unification of evangelical Christian churches. Their parishioners live in the north-eastern regions of the country controlled by the Kurdish administration. Christians note that authorities regularly harass Christian minority in the province of Al-Hasakah. The authorities impose on Christians their own language, laws and customs. Christians pay additional taxes, they are deprived from their land and harvest. In addition, the Kurds are biased against Christian entrepreneurs cutting off electricity and water. Christians are also forcibly sent to the front.

The appeal offers to approve the humanitarian aid delivery. They want to distribute it through churches and Christian organizations. In addition, they propose to include the region in the IOPS annual program of support.

According to IOPS deputy head Elena Agapova, in order to resolve the issue of humanitarian assistance, the organization’s management should familiarize themselves with the appeal and hold a series of consultations. She noted that for several years IOPS actively provides assistance to Christians living in Syria.
