Turkish President Recep Tayyp Erdogan wants his country to enter BRICS, RIA Novosti informs. According to Erdogan, he made this proposal at BRICS summit and the leaders of the countries having the membership of BRICS welcomed his idea.

Erdogan has mentioned that in case Turkey enters the association, it will be renamed into BRICST. Currently the association includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

Earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin has mentioned that there are no plans to expand BRICS so far. At the same time, he does not exclude new members for the organization in future.

Russian leader has said that there are countries, which would want to become a part of BRICS, but the five existing member states are careful about it. BRICS should scrutinize this question. Nevertheless, the organization does not close its doors for new participants.

As the Russkiy Mir Foundation reported earlier, BRICS summit was held last week in Johannesburg, South Africa. Russian President has indicated prioritized directions of the association, such as fighting terrorism, coordination of work of member countries in the fields of politics and economics.
