Golden Mask Festival starts in Moscow

Competitive programme of The Golden Mask theatre festival starts in Moscow today, according to the website of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. The Cinderella ballet from the city of Perm will open the festival. This staging of the Opera and Ballet Theatre is presented in 8 nominations.

According to the general director of the Golden Mask theatre festival and award Mariya Revyakina, this season is very busy. Among participants are several dozens of theatre troupes, around fifty percent of them coming from different regions of the country. She has remarked with satisfaction that the festival involves more and more new theatres year by year.

This month stagings of the most famous Russian theatres such as the Bolshoi Theatre, the Mariinsky Theatre and The Bolshoi Drama Theatre of St. Petersburg will be presented to the audience.

Moreover, Maska Plus agenda promises a lot of interesting performances out of the competition. Starting drama critics chose the most fascinating stagings from twelve cities. After the performances, there will be a discussion with participation of theatre historians, spectators and actors.
This year The Golden Mask in Cinema agenda will also be present at the festival. People will be able to watch live broadcasts of theatre performances in 70 cinema theaters of Russia. The Golden Mask online project will be kicked off. It will be broadcasted online.

More than 170 performances are planned at the festival in total. This is already 24th theatre season of the festival. The gala awarding ceremony is scheduled for 15th of April.

Union of Russian Theatre Workers of the Russian Federation has initiated The Golden Mask Theatre Awards. The Golden Mask award will be handed out at the end of the theatre season in all kinds of theatrical arts including drama, opera, ballet and others.
